I found this interesting link to an Australian article on the Smart
ForMore concept
that Mercedes axed in 2005. It was bigger than a ForFour as it was based on the
C-Class 4Matic platform. Motive power would’ve been supplied by Mercedes four and
six cylinder engines, so it was quite a size....big as in nice, not huge like a barge.
I still find it hard to believe that they did this at a time when sales for SUV's were on the rise,
and the basic concept had already been proved with the ForFour, as this would have been
a roaring success in Europe, as well as breaking the ground into America for Smart.
Even more unbelieveable is that all the 9 pre-production cars were crushed flat, all that is
with the exception of 1, which is in private collection; possibly MB's; hidden away
somewhere !
What I would give to own that car.....not for it's value....but because it would have
been the bigger brother to the ForFour.
Here is a link to the dream that became a reality for a short while (with interior photo's)
Please see/read this link first !http://www.themotorreport.com.au/29950/what-could-have-been-abandoned-smart-formore-concept And here is what we all missed out on......(first 6 photo's courtesy of
www.jesmb.de)
Compared to 'our' ForFour...it is so much
'more' of a ForFour...hence ForMore.
And here are some more pictures I found on my 'travels' around 'the net'....
Nicer coloured one's...but these are just 'photoshopped' images as there are too many
discrepanices from the photos as above....such as the wheel arch profiles do not
match, the wheels are the normal ForFour Moveline/Strokeline 4 bolt style whereas
they should be 5 bolt, the 'faux' bonnet vents are just like a ForFour when they should
be a lot bigger/higher, and finally...the tailgate/rear is nothing like what it should be.
And here are all the
prototypes...lined up in a neat row, before......
THE CRUSH.....! !
Only 1 survived this nightmare......I just wish I had it.....
