Some OBD2 fault codes popped up
« on: August 10, 2014, 02:49:02 PM »

Decided to check for fault codes after my wheel bearing replacement and adjustment for it.

Got these codes:
P1231 - High Speed Fuel Pump Relay activated (Fuel pump relay?)
U1073 - What does this mean? Invalid or Missing Data for Engine Coolant  see this post a bit under: http://www.forfour.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=4069.msg50684#msg50684
U3FFF - Is this even valid? :D

Send clear faults to ECU but these come back. First one would mean my fuel pump is being fried? I didn't notice any problems with full throttle when I tested...

Ideas?

Clear all logged faults, make sure your battery is nice and full of charge, scan the codes again in a couple of days.

Might just have been a glitch :)

Probably just glitching. Car has never run this good.

Today came back from work (50km) and 4.3l/100km

I just can't get that U1073 cleared, tried with other adapter also (well it is elm pirate also)

Any idea what it means, bad sensor? Burned fuse for some system? I am going to MOT soon and it probably will fail if this code pops up during OBD-test. I get every data from torque app and all seem to be in within limits.

Edit: Well nvm, MOT probably will not fail because it is not emission / safety based code. Still I would like to find the cause

Thanks for any ideas.

I don't know what all the fuses on the battery's positive lead but they might be worth checking out. One i know is for the ABS pump and another for the heater blower i think.

Or the pump may be working a bit overtime, perhaps it's clogged? Or trying to compensate for the extra volume of fuel it needs to pump if you guys have lots of ethanol in the mix?

These are just very very random ideas, you might find it better to invest in a star clone than odb2bt adapters...or go into mercedes if you trust there you will find a trained technician that can correctly diagnose your car not just start changing parts on it untill it's fixed, and billing you for every thing.

Ah Alex, you answered my first post. P1231 was cleared and didn't come back, U3FFF was invalid code due bad connection with extension cable.

U1073 is the mystery one. I went today trough all fuses inside cabin. I didn't check battery fuses except main 120 ampere ones.

Ah, so the engine temp sensor one...

But that the engine coolant temp is reported? Do you see it in Torque?

And I can see engine coolant temperature just fine (85-90 when driving)

Yes, engine coolant tempature is for Ford (if I remember right), For mitsubishi it is (CAN) bus-off (for hydralic unit) but Smart ForFour ECU / diagnostic system ain't Mitsubishi nor Ford either :)

sounds to me your EGR valve is either blocked OR the electrics (if its electrically operated) on the valve could be playing up.

i suggest removing and cleaning the EGR valve, clear the codes and then try again, if they come back then a replacement unit may be required/
