i was wondering what experiences anyone has had with supermarket fuel?I don't go to supermarket to do food shopping so tend to only go to Shell as its local and as cheap as the supermarkets.I did however fill the tank a few weeks ago at sainsbury's as my girlfriend gave me a 10p a litre off voucher so i thought that's got to be worth it.
After i filled the near empty tank i drove 380miles to Birmingham and back using motorways for nearly all of the journey,i only managed a poor 53mpg which is 15-20% less than i would usually get on a long journey.I then refuelled the car last week with 41 litres of Shell diesel and within a couple of days of doing fairly short journeys my economy was up to 59mpg and i am sure i would get another 5-10% on long motorway journeys.
I have heard that the fuel in supermarkets comes from same refinery as shell,bp,esso etc but it's what each company adds to fuel that differs,so could sainsburys be adding stuff which basicallly waters down the diesel?

I find supermarkets generally as good as the big fuel companies. The thing I have noticed though is that Shell seems to be that much better, to the point I believe responsiveness improves as well.
The only downside is that we only have 1 local shell station and I don't often go in that direction.

i will always use shell where possible,i boycott Tesco's and avoid local BP as they take the p*ss with their prices.It's strange we have a BP and Shell at the top of the road and yet BP is always dearer however the forecourt is always busy,maybe people think Nectar points are worth the extra or it takes a certain fuel card?

Always use Tesco for their 99RON fuel in the Brab.  Goes like a rocket with that in!!

i used to boycott tesco as my taxi driver m8's used to tell me to avoid their fuel - but with hubby and i running cars we started to as we now use clubcard points

i don't use Tesco's because i don't like the company but i have never heard of any complaints about their fuel,i think i read they are now the biggest supplier of fuel in UK.

Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury all use the same supply company/storage dispatch company, and all of the fuel comes from Vopack. Shell pride themselves as supplying the BEST fuel money can supply, and after a visit to their refinery I must say it was very enlightening    It's the additives that make Shell the best.

i will stick with shell,they are all over the place up here and they charge the same as the supermarkets.
