I am astonished!
« on: December 31, 2014, 05:32:56 PM »

Well, as the post title says, I truly am! After a round trip to visit my brother in Northampton of 478 miles (punctuated by a lovely holiday in Paris... travel by Eurostar) my little 1.1 did the return journey on less than a tank of petrol. On my return I filled up the tank which took 36 litres. Doing the maths this gave a fuel consumption of just over 60mpg!!! Admittedly I was 'hypermiling' at about 60-65 mph and there were several contra flows on the M5. The weather was very cold but I was snug and relaxed in my brilliant little car with the heater on and the tunes playing. I am constantly amazed by the way this little car just delivers.  ;)

Great to see ( hear ) that the car still puts a big smile on your face  ...

I still love mine ( after 10 years ) and really can't think of anything I'd want to replace it with  ( even if I were in the market .... OR had the spare wonga  ) .

i managed to get from Leeds to Dillingen an der Donau on 2 tanks with my 1.1... with my dad and sister, and a boot full of luggage.

filled up in Leeds before we set off and once again in Belgium. the route we took was Leeds to Dover, Dover to Calais on the ferry, France, Belgium and then Germany. total distance travelled 845 miles

on the way back, filled up at what was an ex-shell garage about 30 min drive from Dillingen a few days before we set off, all the way through Germany, in to Luxembourg, Belgium where we filled up, France, ferry from Calais to Dover, and then Dover to Leeds, missed the junction on the A1 for the M62 so we went up to the A64 and then in to Leeds. total distance travelled 850 miles.

i was sat at 70-75 all the way in to Germany, where the speed didnt drop below 80-109. i was glad to see that even with a full car i managed to Max my 1.1 on the autobahn ;D

That's impressive. I'm sure mine would do better if I had the strong will to drive sedately for that long. Since a remap by Tony @ S2 on my CD I'm still getting 50+mpg plus great performance. Such a cracking little motor.
