Change engine cover
« on: November 21, 2017, 11:57:08 AM »

Any one know why there are two different engine covers for the 1.5 454.
Reason I ask is my air filter box hits the larger cover I have making a knocking noise. So would like to fit smaller one.

There isn't a difference between the way those two fit as far as I recall. Smart restyled the cover late 2005/6, odd that the bigger cover hits the airbox though... is the airbox secured in the right places?

Air box is fixed on ok ,took it out checked every thing ,just quite a bit of play on its rubber seat, and not much clearance for the cover. Rubbers are fine. Any one fitted an after market induction system that may stop the knocking.

Why got to the expense of an after market induction that will
usually be opne into the engine bay and suck in warm/hot
power sapping air into the engine ?

Looking at the pictures, if it were me I would take cutters/hacksaw
to the larger cover and remove the excess material so that it
more or less mirrors the smaller cover.  A 'no-cost' mod that will
stop the problem you have.
Either that or search the scrap yards/breakers for a smaller cover.
