standard colt seats
« on: January 24, 2017, 09:11:06 PM »

are the standard colt seats the same as the seats in our cars?

i ask because i want the heated seat pads but Mercedes wants £101 for EACH pad and there are 4 in total (2 seat bases and 2 backs) so thats £404 for all 4 pads. i could buy a pair of front seats cheaper but i want to keep the original seats i have and just fit the heater elements, and i figure that Mitsubishi might have them cheaper if they are the same seats.

Should be the same.

You could also get some universal heating mats (carbon). Its no rocket science.

i contacted a seller on ebay who is selling the carbon heated seat pads asking if the pads would work with the wiring already in the car. his reply was it should work, all id have to do is modify the connector. ill possibly get them ordered when i get back from India.

It might not be rocket science as 4g15turbo says, but I'm
wondering if the standard set up is CANBus controlled, in which
case you would have to wire them via a separate fuse box, relays
and switches.  Not sure how you can ascertain that, but it would
be something I would check into before proceeding.

But again, a separate fused power circuit with fuses, relays,
and switches is not rocket science either.

why would i have to use separate wiring, fuses and relays if the wiring and buttons are already there and all i have to do is plug the pads and relay in?

You don't

Don't think the OEM has any feedback loop from the pads as they are timed (maybe)

The pad is just the "effector" of the existing loom no?

I did not say you had to.....
But what I did say was...
... I'm wondering if the standard set up is CANBus controlled, in which cae
you would have to wire them via a separate fuse box, relays and switches.

Plus...
...Not sure how you can ascertain that, but it would be something
I would check into before proceeding.

Forgive me for being so precautious.....
