Glow plug relay - warning light !
« on: November 25, 2011, 01:07:59 PM »

I drive an excellent forfour cdi - stunning performance from a fab SMART machine !

The car starts fine and the glow plug warning light goes out as it should but on occasions it will come back on for about 30secs and then go out again. I suspect a sticking relay - any idea where the relay is located and if at all possible where I can buy a replacement relay other than at a MB dealer!

Thank you !

No idea where it will be located (is there a clue in the hand book, possibly with the section on fuses?).

Depending on the type of relay, any decent motor factor may be able to get one, or you may have to go to smart / mercedes.

I have a feeling that this is an indicator that the glow plugs need replacing (preparing to be corrected by cdi owners)

I seem to recall there being some discussions previously to this effect.

I very much doubt it would be a relay failure. Have a search of the site in the engine area.

....oh and welcome ;)

Hi 78derngate and welcome....from the 'other' Admin guy here.

Methinks that as the problem has been more or less identified as the glowplug relay,
and theat member MazzieL also had the same problem and got it sorted by
S2smarts, that they would be the guys to have a word with to see if they'll give you
the lowdown on where exactly it is situated....and if it's a simple job to do.

Hi.....Many thanks for the warm welcome - as would be expected from fellow SMART owners - we're definitely a friendly bunch.

Delighted by the response to my glow plug warning light relay problem.

Thanks for the information. Much appreciated. :)
