Leather or fabric/cloth seats ?
« on: August 09, 2010, 11:51:08 PM »

I've got leather heated seats in my Brabus ForTwo.....great in the winter...
but leather in this weather....icky sticky and slippy slidie....much prefer the cloth/fabric in my ForFour.
Cool to touch in summer, cool not cold in winter...and 'grips' better.

There is no denying that leather looks fab n smells nice....
I have leather in my M5....and had it in a 530i and a few of the other cars I've had before...
but it still really doesn't ring my bell.

Just a thought......If leather is that good, why don't rally/racing cars have it ?

Any comments/thoughts ?

It's too slippy!! Most racing seats come in velour for extra grip!!

There is probably also fire retardancy, flexibility and durability issues with leather ;)

In road cars, lateral G isn't really an issue so leather seats with high sided bolsters gives performance and luxury in one!

Well that my 2p anyway...

I love my leather in my forfour, glad it has the fabric insert to allow the back to breathe in summer. But in winter until they warm up they can be err... nippy! As for summer... hmm... if bare skin accidental touches the leather? OWWIE!!

TBH honest I would prefer velour/alcantara with leather bolsters - mucho grippier! With heating of course. :)
