Garage recommendations for Southend, Essex
« on: July 11, 2016, 12:05:26 PM »

Hi all

Got my lovely Smart ForFour 1.5 in March and quite enjoying it...Very different from my Subaru!! But anyway...
I have the door lock problem and have had the cable replaced. It lasted a couple of weeks and then came back so took to parking more in shade. Took car back to garage to have rear wiper motor replaced and mentioned the door was still struggling. They greased it and looked at it and said they can see nothing wrong. Since I've got it back I've had the door shut first time once. I've been using the passenger door and climbing over! So think that I'll have to get the lock replaced.
Any recommendations for Smart Garage in Southend? Would rather not take it to Merc garage..

Grease is the worst possible solution...unless its silicone.
TBH, the lock assembly should be removed, flushed with
a good penetrating solution, and then checked out to
ensure it works as it should, then refitted if it does, or
replaced if not.

I recently replaced the cable,  have you inspected the actual handle to ensure the cable is the right place?
I am in purfleet Essex.

Thanks

Thanks for the reply peps.
The incredible heat at the weekend meant that when it was time to go to the tip, I forgot about the car door and couldn't shut it. Sat in the car for a couple of hours and still wasn't closing. Secured the door with a bike lock and left it till Sunday. Still couldn't shut it so took it round the garage, using the bike lock to hold door shut through rear window!
I've now got a new lock put on. I'm hoping that will be the end of that. The garage did say that whilst the car was there and out of the sun then the door shut fine. Unfortunately, I cant wait for a cloudy day to drive the car!
