Get parts delivered straight to your boot...
« on: July 26, 2016, 05:56:38 PM »

Today the news is all about Amazon delivering parcels with drones, but yesterday smart announced it is co-operating with DHL Paket to trial delivery of parcels to the boot of your car: http://media.daimler.com/marsMediaSite/en/instance/ko/From-the-autumn-smart-car-drivers-can-test-a-new-logistics-s.xhtml?oid=13038648 (sorry, I don't think they can retrofit the new technology to the original ForFour  :'( ).

As a person who works professionally in Computing and with all the horror stories regarding UConnect from Jeep et al, I wouldn't want to invest the time in retrofitting this. The "Connectivity Box" is going to be another point of entry for a suitably skilled cracker to break into your car which is something I simply would not want in my car at all.

Depending on the implementation, it may not be that hard to generate a TAN code that can pop your boot and then steal anything out of your car.

Apologies for the negative sounding comment but Smart really needs to focus on building a good charismatic car, not this security breach waiting to happen.

guess you could say the same about lots of vehicles that have a button to pop the boot (like our bmw)

the tech is a risk but so is the person..... what if he doesn't close the boot. what if a "scoundral" passing sees a dhl man loading up your boot with parcels in the month leading up to xmas

Another useless sales gimmick that the techophobes and gadgetboys
will all fall foul of.   People are so fickle......

Almost as bad as the new fad of self parking...for lazy people who
can't be a*sd to do what they had to do to pass their driving test...
reverse parking !
Oh, and the latest gizmo being advertised on TV on a car....
(Peugeot 3008) a knob that you twist on the dash/centre
console that 'adapts' the cars handling/steering labelled as
'Grip Control' !  For driver's too damned lazy to adapt themelves
to the prevailing conditions.....
Worse thing though is that it is only available on certain models !
Why ?..or is it that they sort of recognise that some owners will
actually know how to drive the thing properly ?

I'm also thinking that these are all steps towards the autonimous
self drive cars that manufactuers are pushing towards !
Get in...set your destination...sit back and 'play' on your iPad or
whatever you have while you get driven about.
Laziness personified....or on the way towards a race of clones......

Don't diss the knob dude

Had a few cars recently with knobs

The b-class I had the other day really was awesome. Eco, sport and custom. On custom you could select engine power, normal or sports steering, how the years changed etc. Was a real difference between all the modes. I'd love to had an adjustable remap on the BRAB

Years  ???  :-\  :P

Talk to Tony...at one time the S2 racing Brab had switchable settings...
so I'm sure he could sort something out if you really wanted it.
In the meantime make do with the three 'options' you already have...
1/ Limp mode...2/ normal driving style...or 3/ pedal to the metal   ;D
