its nice to see that the CDI has got a mention but i dont like the fact the article suggests that these are 'disposable' car, as are the other cars that are on the list.

'Disposable' as in they'll all soon be banned, 'regulated', or charged
off the road by the misguided ingoramous tw@ts that are politicians
or mayors who are seeking favour of their voters by trying to appear
'green' and/or concerned for the health and welfare of everyone
whilst in reality only caring about themselves and what 'mileage'
they can get out of it.

Disposable as they cost less than 1 year of depreciation of a newer car Or
Disposable in that if it doesn’t pass its next MOT there is no need to fix it as you can buy another for less than the cost of a repair

Diesel particulates can cause lung cancer and other health problems more directly than say the longer term effects of global warming though CO2 emissions.

However, the modern dual dpfs pretty much take the particultesnand NO2 down to zero - diesel is still a better fuel and powering things like ocean liners or trains or trucks just couldn’t be done with any other fuel (bar nuclear)

You forgot what use to used before I/C came along... steam (burning coal), or
in the case of ships...W I N D  power (and of course oars when there was no wind)  :P

Nuclear is still used to create steam and power steam turbines

I get the complaints about city fumes, but there is a disproportionate level of attention of convenient ignoring of the pollution from coal fired power stations (Chinese money is building loads in developing countries because they are cheap) and commercial shipping. Its just more immediately in peoples faces (literally) so the pressure groups find it easier to campaign against than global scale issues which will take years to address.
