G'day all, I was driving around yesterday with my new front tires and noticed the car is a lot quieter on the road than with the old ones, and i like that a lot.
The old tires had on the left about 1.5 mm and the right 3 mm, so the was close to the limit i think.
The new ones have about 7.5 mm and am sure they will last me a long time on this light car.
Any idea how many km i can get out of tires ? the old front ones were worn when i got the car and lasted me another 40.000 km.

Depends on threadwear rating and how hard you brake/accelerate really. But since the old ones lasted so long, these will probably go at least double that much?

It's advisable though that you fit new tires on the rear and move the rears to the front, this way you get the most predictable steering response and also make the most of the tires on the car.

Having better traction on the front than the rear can lead to oversteer which is more unpredictable and harder to correct than understeer, but it might never be an issue if you drive conservatively.

One real issue may be the age of the rear tires which can last a reeeally long time compared to front ones and can become cracked due to ageing way before they wear out.

G'day Alex, thanx for your reply.
I dont brake and accelerate hard as i am a eco driver and try not to use the brakes if i can help it, ( i do a lot of coasting to corners and traffic lights) and go around corners at a respectable and conservatively speed, i think the tires are for me better at the front as it gives also a better speedo reading. and the rear tires were near new when i bought the car 4 years ago and....they were up front.....lol.

In November, when I put mine in for its first MOT since I bought it, it failed on all four tyres.  They had loads of tread depth left, close to half their original level, but they were all out of date, and one was badly perished on the sidewall.  I didn't ask how long out they were, or when they were made, but even though my car is fairly low mileage for its year, I think that's a strong indication that a set will cover a lot of miles.
