Just bought 2006 Brabus - issues
« on: October 27, 2020, 09:59:31 PM »

Hi guys,
Just joined the world of smart by buying a 56 plate 1.5 turbo Brabus in black with 78,000 on the clock. Bit of an impulse purchase but we only live once!

Having got it home and taken a serious look at it there is some issues I need some advice on;
-There is a strong smell of petrol on startup. No obvious leaks/drips. It does disappear after a drive so not sure on that.
-Drivers side heated seat doesn’t work. Clicks on then off again.
-Passenger side window doesn’t work. Motor works so I’m guessing it’s the relay
-Exhaust has a blow off the front. Can see the manifold has been welded before

If anyone has anyone suggestions/YouTube videos/parts for sale please let me know it will be a great help. The engine sounds very good got good service history. The brakes aren’t how I’d like them to be so going to change the fluid in them. Is there anything else you guys think I should know? Planning on spending a few weeks getting it up to scratch before it gets taxed/insured so suggestions welcome please!

This is your opportunity to upgrade the exhaust manifold. The bunch of bananas type probably means a reprogram of the ECU and certainly discard of the underbonnet heat shield. Alternatively the Log type has I believe resumed production but not by FINE.

Hi and welcome to our lill forum..
Exhaust manifold....'log' type that is similar in style to the
no longer available FiNe one is by a company called GizFab.
Not cheap but top grade item...no remap required...but
worth having it done anyway to get THE best from it and the
engine.
NOTE...when you do the brakes and bleed them, be aware
that the same fluid reservoir supplies the hydraulic clutch...
so you must bleed that as well.
Re passenger side window...could well be a relay..
check out this for lots of info, including relays:-

Thankyou for that, that’s very helpful. Have you got any idea on the smell of petrol on startup, is that normal on these?

That could just be the leak in the manifold causing the smell
until it expands with heat and seals the crack.
Mind you...that could be replaced with exhaust fumes if the
crack doesn't close up !
I'd still check all fuel lines to the engine...to be sure though.

As a further update...FiNe no longer exist, so there
is no chance of obtaining a replacement from them
if yours is unrepairable.
However...
There is a company that is doing and has been doing
more of less the exact same 'log' style exhaust manifold
but even better...as I have seen video's etc of the guy/s
making them/similar ones and the quality and craftsmanship
is stunning and worth every penny.
