My knobs are broken!
« on: April 30, 2021, 10:47:48 PM »

My first post here  - be gentle :)

I have a 2018 model - and the little knobs that the parcel shelf clip onto keep falling off.

I've tried a google to see if it's common but apparently not? The things that are falling off are the little black plastic hooks that the parcel shelf things on the rope snap onto - they attach to these threads that stick out from the tailgate surround.

Do you know the things I mean? On both sides they have come lose and keep falling off. I could glue them on - but I was wondering if there was a part number or something?

MBUK had the car for a service today and weren't very helpful. They said I'd need to buy a whole parcel shelf setup but I can't believe these parts are not available - I just dont know where to source them or where the parts manual would show them!

Thanks so much!

it makes me laugh that the owners seam to know better than the dealers.

it is often the case that the little knobs that the parcel shelf is hooked on to are not available separatly and are part of the trim they are attatched to.

rather than trying to look for the parts yourself have you tried speaking to the parts department.

Well they had the car in for a service like I said and told me that the only way would be to buy a whole new rear parcel shelf setup - as I mentioned.
Wasn’t suggesting I know better. Was asking if I could find out what the part was and buy it myself rather than an entire shelf.
He told me to try plumbing tape to make the threads stick to the knob things. Then said they are not allowed to suggest super glue.
So.
Where could I procure a couple of these plastic things that likely cost pennies.

A scrapyard, particularly a specific Renault breaker.?. Some of these Renault Twingo's must have been written off by now.

Inkytog...any chance of a picture of the 'bits'/parts as it's not as if
we can hang around someone's car and wait for them to return before
we aslk can we have a look at the tailgate/parcel shelf.....they'll think
we're odd/wierd or trying to nick their car.

If you haven't worked out how to post a picture, click on Reply
then down at the bottom left...just outside the text 'box' you'll see
'Additional Options'...click on it, then below that you'll see 'Attach'...
Click on 'Browse'...select the picture from your PC/laptop...
Click on 'Open'...go to the bottom right under the 'Attach' area...
click on 'Post' to upload it to the Forum.
(You won't see the picture if you click on 'Preview', ok.)

Hi, of course.. my bad, I wasn't home and didn't have the car with me.

I've amended the original post and added the images. You can hopefully see which bit I need - the small plastic 'nub' thing that clips over that thread on the boot lid.

Thanks!

a drop of super glue or some 2 part epoxy resin my do the job for the nub on the tail gate... OR buy a new nub from mercedes and screw it onto the tail gate, unless its the string clip that is broken. in which case, bit the bullet and buy a new one or come up with a way to salvage what you have.
