Dropped my 44 off at Smart of Beaconsfield at 8.30 this morning to code my new key to the car. Just got a phone call saying they need to keep it overnight as they need to get some new codes because the old ones didn't work. So now I have to get a taxi home from the station and a taxi to the station tomorrow morning and then a taxi back to the garage to collect my car !

I'd ask for a reduction in the cost/charge.  What should have been a simple 15 minute
or so job has now left you without transport !
Not your fault their code's don't work....that's their problem..and it has left you having
to fork out unnecessarily...they should do you a deal.
Or...they should have offered a courtesy car.  Stand your ground.....

it a very good clean indeed. Spent £155 on the key (£95 for key £60 to code) then £30
to replace the front wipers and £82 to replace a wing mirror. They also gave it a free
visual check and recommended I change the brakes as they are rusty and gave me a
£300 estimate.

£30 to replace wiperblades ?   You could of done it yourself for about £15 !
As for brakes, I got parts for £120 (Delphi pads and discs) and fitted by local garage,
didn't see the need to go to Smart have them replaced.

And as for the key, thats why mine is insured !

Didn't you demand a discount on the key+coding due to their 'unusable key codes'
requiring you to be without transport and additional travel expenses ?
Surely you demanded some recompense for the inconvenience caused to you ?
Anyway...genuine Bosch AeroTwin front wipers are about £25, so £30 from Merc isn't
too bad considering they fitted them as well....
But £300 for the brakes Front only, or front+rears ?
Yeah...definitely ask S2Smarts....

I'm guessing your local garage charges £60 or £70 per hour.....
so about 1.5 to 2 hours work ? =£110 to £140 to fit.
and with the new discs n pads @ £120 = total of £230 to £260....
So £300 from Merc for front n rear would be about right.
Assuming it is for fronts and rears....?  and that they'll be using genuine Smart parts.
If just the fronts, then def checkout S2smarts.
