I bet it was a hell of a ride but also you have pushed the car to the max ;)
The 1.1 is a nifty little powerful engine for it's size but one must be a fool to even conceive dusting a 1.8 l petrol engine.
And to make things better imho it's the best value in the sense that you can get ride full of fun with the least amount of fuel  :D

i was giving it some, and i have to say, i enjoyed it!
he had an 'L' reg honda vfr 400

I'm not surprised you could if he's on one of those! He'd be giving it the beans too after hitting 50mph!

The 1.1 isn't as gutless as people make out. I've held off the advances of a 1.8 vectra before. He even admitted to having to really push it and was bummed to hear that I let him pass in the end :)

stripy nick on maniace asked me on facebook what i thought about the 1.1 and i told him straight that the people who say the 1.1 needs to be worked hard are talking out of there a*s! i can quite happily sit at 60 on the motorways!

A 55 Polo 1.4 litre is 75bhp and weighs in at around 1.2tonnes whereas the the ForFour is 1.1 litre and 75bhp and weighs in at 0.9tonnes... hmm do the math.
The power to weight ratio (bhp/tonne) figures are key to the ForFour NOT the factual bhp figures, cos they undermine the car.

A colleague at work has a 2010 Mazda 2 which is 1.3 and puts out 85bhp returns about 45mpg max and an avg. of 40mpg... a 5y/o ForFour can trounce those figuresv!! Yes the ForFour tech is getting superceded by charged motors but for normally aspirated tech they still are leaps and bounds ahead !

Oh and a bog std 55reg Golf GTi and ForFour Brabus have near equivalent bhp/tonne...

I can very happily sit at 70 and if I need to overtake from that speed, I can do that with ease too... and I've got stupid wheels on my forfour.

I've recently done a trip trough my country and the average mpg is 54.85. It doesn't sound that good, but wait! There were 3 peops +a whole lot of luggage and the roads...well let's just say they were a far cry from perfect and only 10 miles of them was motorway. In total there were 1106 miles and 1/3 of the gas that went in was 98.  ;)

I can understand that!
When we're driving on the motorway, we're generally going from Bedfordshire to Surrey on the M1 and M25, with a loaded car, through numerous variable limits and 50mph 'average speed' zones :(
I'm very interested in getting decent MPG but to be honest, I rarely find myself in situations where I can drive in such a manner!
