if its been ditched you at a loss but it might be on the road still. as you say it could have been a lad out to see his lass late at night  ;) but things went wrong

Wow G, I do hope you find the little hole who did that.

I certainly back the idea of reporting to the police, like people have said - the tyke might have done someone else's car / wall / house and you never know, the information might add up!

We had someone smash into our garden fence, smashing into the end post, ripping it out of several feet of concrete and destroying a panel connected. Nearly hit our neighbours car. He's a light sleeper so peeked from his window, looked out the window and wrote it all down for us. Didn't have any idea until the neighbour knocked on the door saying what had happened. We filed a police report (purely to let the coppers know, record the incident and make them do some work) and they eventually found the guy while connecting the dots on another charge. Turned out he was drunk, had no tax, mot, insurance and a suspended licence.

Getting the incident number helps with insurance of course - and lets the police and local councils (elected and un-elected) know what's going on in the area.
Reporting crimes, no matter how little, is very important as people can't take action if they don't know what's going on. People don't report because they think that they won't do anything but when you talk to bobby and he reads the statistics, he's unaware anything happened and thinks everything is great. If they know, it puts more pressure on them to act and do what they are supposed to do - but they can't unless people do tell them if something happens.
That's what they are there for and that's what you pay your tax for so use the service! In the case of police statistics - that the council see and act on too, every little helps.

Do pursue and don't pay out from your pocket unless you really have to.

I completely agree with Fox here....even if they can't do anything at least they have it on record (which certainly helps for insurance purposes).

I am sorry to read about your little car CrazyG :( Someone did the same thing to my Golf when I parked on the street near my last workplace...some guy threatened me early in the morning saying that the local residents don't like me parking here...I shrugged it off thinking that they were idiots as I pay my road tax etc...
By the time the evening came it had scratches all down the passenger side....I reported it and got a police number but they weren't able to do much as they couldn't prove who did it and there were no CCTV cameras....plus I worked near Croydon so there were much more serious crimes to deal with (their words).

Have managed to get a quote to have the whole rear bumper re-sprayed. That includes
any filling/stoppering to bring panel up to smooth finish before spraying.
I have to remove it and give it to the guys though as they won't do it on the car....
and it ALL needs to be sprayed...to colour match.  Price...to me...£200.
Should be done in time for the Smart Fest 2011. (fingers crossed)
