Audi TT vs Smart 44 Brabus
« on: January 03, 2012, 11:36:07 AM »

An Audi TT tried to outrun my Brabus after exiting a roundabout. He gave way after half a mile realising that he won't outrun the Brabus :)

That is the fun thing about a Brabus.  There are a lot of people out there who, at a glance, assume its a small shopping hatch.  Then they are very surprised when it keeps up with them.

Although a couple of weeks ago, a Mini Cooper S cut in front of me and when we were both in front of the traffic light after I moved to the other lane, he shoots off right after the lights went green. He might be trying to show off that although in papers, the Brabus is faster to 60mph that he can beat it. I didn't took him to the challenge because the road has a 30mph limit and I just went to my normal slow driving while he was shooting off the road showing off  :P

One should always observe the high way code, espicialy if showing off.

I once saw a Golf GTi run into the back of someone while trying to prove a non existant point with a triumph spitfire which was at least 20 years older.

i get VERY 'show off' when it comes to tail gaters. when i see a car right up my a*s i start to slow down slowly, some times touch the brake enough to bring the brake lights on, and once they try and overtake, i drop it in to 3rd/2nd (most of the time) and floor it, i ended uo 'cooking my brakes by trying to keep a taxi driver behind me whilst going down a hill and braking long and heavily, slowing for a speed camera

Around here it is illegal to speed up when somebody tries to overtake you. Why not just put your rear fog light on, that will make them back up a bit because it's very bright, and at first they think you are braking. I always do this to tailgaters that hang around for too long.

I was driving on the m4 on Monday and it started chucking it down. Lots of spray, low sun ahead so visibility was very poor (I could see the lights of the car in front but not the ones of the car in front of that)

So input my fog light on

Audi TT driver behind decided I wasn't allowed to do that and flicked in main beam..... And left it on (light didn't bother me because it was day and not even slightly blinding)

When spray died down and allowed suitable  visibility, I switched off and then back on when spray increased - and he would match by flashing me with his main beam!!

Muppet!!

He also gave me the finger as he passed and then put his rear fog on as I pulled in behind him (not blinding at all) so not sure what his issue was apart from he was middle aged owning the low power 10 year old TT  ;)

I wouldn't want to provoke road rage, although I did used to touch the brakes when people followed me too closely.  Then I found it was more fun to just drop it a few gears and engine brake, so slow down quickly  without the brake lights coming on, then accelerate away.

Now I am old & sensible, so I keep one of the screen washer jets aiming slightly high and if anyone follows too closely I dump half a gallon of screen wash on them, far more fun, officer.

Audi TT driver was right.
You are only supposed to use fog lights in the fog and you are only supposed to use rear fog lights when there are no cars behind you to give approaching cars a clue that you are there. Once they are behind you, you are supposed to turn them off.

not sure i agree with any of that young man....   8)

Right to turn on his main beam in retaliation?? haha! or the finger made it ok.....

If he was close enough to be "behind" me then he was too close for the conditions - but i'm just waffling now!! not like me....

Oh.... And....

226
You MUST use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced, generally when you cannot see for more than 100 metres (328 feet). You may also use front or rear fog lights but you MUST switch them off when visibility improves (see Rule 236).
[Law RVLR regs 25 & 27]

.....exactly what I did and I would say "visibility" was well below 100m - as I said, couldn't see the 2nd cars outline :)

Fog lights aren't just for fog.... Interesting that the 100m has no link to speed.

I got tail-gated last week. It was just about 10pm. I came to a roundabout, entered and
took first exit. A car that I saw entering the roundabout from the other side shot round
and zoomed right up behind me, and stayed close. We were now in a town high street
and I was doing 30. Car still too close behind, so I pulled away a bit...following car copied
and closed up again ! At the end of the high street were traffic lights, so I slowed, but as
I got to them they changed so I came off the brakes and accelerated. Car behind shot up
behind...again...close enough so headlights part obscurred ! Just after the lights there's
a railway bridge/climb...up that and over the brow..car still too dam close, so again I
blipped the throttle to nearly 40ish, but the car raced up behind me again !  I was getting
well miffed now. Anyway, 1/4 mile ahead were traffic lights to a junction for a main road
dual carriageway. I take the middle lane for straight ahead.(Left lane is left turn only, and
right lane is right turn only.)  I thought... right....I'll not roar away but instead let the lights
turn green and move off after that, I'll do it real slowly.  He'll either pull out and pass me
or get baulked as there's another set of lights only 20 yards ahead. Yes....that'll do it.

Imagine my surprise when this plain dark blue Fraud Focus pulls up on my left side....
and it's being driven by a young copper ! !  Oh and he then does the old Do-Dah horn bit ! !
Then he lets his window down and tells me off for driving too fast in a built up urban area !
Eh hello I say to him....I wasn't until till he zoomed up behind me and tail-gated so close.
And then we start to argue....he said he wasn't, I said he was and why so close...he said he
wasn't. This could have gone on, as I am sure he was just after trying to give me a ticket.
However, I hadn't maintained over 30 for long enough, and he had no partner/witness.
But...the changing of the lights came to my rescue.... and with traffic backed up behind us
he had little option other than to let the matter drop.
The thing is...since then I've seen the same car with him in it in the evenings...tail-gating
right up behind other cars ! I'm sure he's doing it on purpose to provoke people to speed
up and then issue them with a ticket.  B@st@rd......

did the car have blues and twos??

there have been quite a few bits on the news and around the various PH type sites about cars masquerading as police cars!

if it only had 1 person and they were young i very much doubt it was a copper..... they have to do the the beat and then training and ALWAYS travel in pairs.

i would ring your local police (or local to where the car was) and report the car .... stating you didn't believe it was a genuine police man and see what they say.

no harm doing that (IMO) as it all sounds v v dodgy to me!

I'll rephrase the 'young' bit ......younger than me...and I'm older than most on here...I think.
The guy was about 35. Clean shaven, 'decent' hair cut.....and he had on the full uniform with
shoulder radio etc etc...and had blue flashers in the grill as saw them going when we pulled
away from the last traffic lights....and mustn't forget the genuine police siren/horn....
so yeah, all...genuine.
I didnt make a note of the reg, number...but I'll keep my eyes out, and if I see him/it again
and he's pushing/tail-gating another poor driver, then I'll ring the local office and complain.

Have to say a little surprised to read about people's road rage on here! We all know that there are idiot drivers out there but retaliating is not the answer! By retaliating you're not only putting your own life at risk but you're putting others at risk too.

Why not shrug it off and laugh about the fact that some people are just idiots- at least you'll be safe!

A big "LIKE" for LadyV comment :) also in Europe is a hazard traffic and people fight in traffic , going out of the car and fight like in the k1 mach :D

Is better just to pass near to you and do not react at brutal brkaes and keep distance , call the police tell the number of his car and then your stress will be rewarded with a ticket for the stupid driver :)
