Brabus - cost of new rear splitter/apron
« on: January 30, 2012, 06:39:54 AM »

There was a poor dead badger in the middle of the road today, down a dark lane so didn't see him till too late.

The rear splitters been torn off my bumper.

Anyone have any ideas the cost of a new rear bumper so I can brace myself before I phone smart?

you might find that the bumper on the brabus may come in 4 separate parts, the arches (x2), the center section and the rear valance, so it might not cost as much. the non brabus ones have 3 sections

Yep, if everything else is ok, you only need the rear splitter/valance. It's still expensive, but not as expensive as the complete rear bumper+wheel arches, that would be over 300pounds unpainted.

Is it just the splitter?

Is it still attached??

Do you still have the splitter??

Can it be fixed??

The splitter is lying somewhere next to said badge in bovingdon...

It basically shredded off along each of the holes in the splitter.

There's also a bit of damage in the left bottom corner of the main bumper.

£300 doesn't sound so bad compare to the £500 I had to pay when a Porsche tail ended my primera.

Sorry to hear of you 'incident'.......
The rear apron is around £300-310 ....unpainted & unfitted. It is held on by 5 clips
and tape. (I know cos I fitted one to mine..)
Check for all damage along the lower edges of the 3 panels of the 'normal' bumper
assembly.  If you have to replace any of those then they too come unpainted.

The clips grip using spiked points on the edges, so where they fit may be chewed up
and not provide enough thickness/material for new clips to grip on. Any old tape left
behind from the valance will have to be scraped off and the area cleaned with thinners
or similar to provide a good 'key' for the new tape.

By rear apron do you mean the splitter alone?? I had a look now the sun's up and it's just the splitter - all the bit that clip to the bumper are still there, the splitter has sheared off under that. £300... Damn.

Still, I'm better off than the badger!

It's actually specific as a Brabus part and called a 'rear lower valance'. (in a word..splitter)

Seeing what's left on the car there won't be much left behind. I couldn't stop this morning cos at 5.30am it's a road through woods, with no lighting and no footpath!

For reference to anyone who wants a vallance for their non-brabus, or anyone else who batters a badger, Mercedes Watford have it for £73.

They also have a bodyshop who can paint and fit it. I'll see what they quote and the. I might just buy a couple of cans an do it myself for such a small part hidden away as it is.

Result.

The last badger I hit early in the morning (not in the Brabus) cost a lot more than that (front bumper, front spoiler, head light, fog light, indicator.

I don't know how it didn't break the front bumper, or at least the splitter!!

I opened and closed my passenger front door at work, and as I closed it the mirror class fell out :P I assume it was knocked out of place by the bump.

Did the glass break and if not, will fit back into the mirror?

It literally just fell out, but was fortunately saved by one of the wires (heated glass?) which remained attached.

I reattached the other wire, and it clicked back into place.
