the project begins
« on: February 21, 2012, 10:59:47 AM »

well my smart transplant project began today (would have been started sooner but the weather scuppered that plan.

so i have a 05 plate brabus with 37000 miles, so far we have removed

seats
carpets
airbags
trim

this week we intend to remove
engine
gearbox
suspension
brakes
exhaust
wiring loom
and front end of the car

all to make way for a Subaru WRX STI V7 EJ20 conversion to include all running gear
six speed box, four wheel drive, brembo brakes, ancillaries, then the front of the brabus will be re grafted back on to car to help with the oem (ish) look,

Pics will be uploaded as soon as i can find the camera cable

Sounds tasty, wouldn't it have been easier to try and get a 2 litre mitsu block in there tho?

The Suburu is nice of course but keeping with the history of the car, a nod to mitsu could have been nice?

Probably would be a very, very thirsty car then though.

Good luck with it, and be careful, that thing would out run anything on the road once finished I suspect, keep an eye on weight balancing, may need to compensate for that big engine up front, unless your mounting it in the middle of course?

I'm sure you'll find lots of buyers for any of the Brabus bits that you
remove/have removed.....can I ask if you would offer them up on here
first ?

So at the end of it all you'll have a Smartbaru or a Smubarart, eh ?

i will of course offer all parts for sale on here, however wont be doing till the end, so can photo / list all the smart subaru parts at same time.

Today have ordered some BC coil overs to go with the BBS wheels.
car will be corner weighed and more bracing will be added, rear doors will be smoothed in and car is going to get an impreza blue paint scheme. The plan is to try have it ready for brooklands this year (however that depends how busy work is) and how easy it passes an sva! (gulp)
Not decided on a name yet, was thinking brabaru

This is a very exciting project - especially as my Brabus is the compromise I came to because I couldn't afford to run an impreza!

Looking forward to some pictures and updates on how you're getting on.

Good luck fitting all that in the tiny engine bay!

"Brabaru".....kinda catchie that....

Re-think on that.... calling it a Smart Brabaru makes it sound like
a knackered old Aussie pick-up truck !
How about  Subaru For x Four

hahaha enough with the names G, it should be a - Scoo-by-four :)

This sounds like a very fun project! Are you making use of any of the Brabus kit or did you buy a Brab just for the interior trim level?
