Four years old today!
« on: March 01, 2012, 08:35:00 PM »

Andron's forfour BRABUS is 4yrs old today, and so the warranty has now ended, as has the need to use smart for servicing!

Does anyone have any thoughts on an extended warranty? I'm not normally one who buys these things, but there's a lot that could go wrong on a BRABUS.

read the small print on the warrenty! youll be surprised at what it wont cover!
it wont cover wear and tear items such as the clutch (mileage depending and whats caused the failure), possible oil/water leaks (again depending on whats caused the parts to fail and mileage) and wiring that i can think of at this moment in time. suspension parts are covered but its hit and miss, again depends on whats failed.

I wouldn't bother with the extended warranty now. Just keep it properly serviced and do all you can to avoid problems.

Four years isn't old for a car yet... But as mr Singh says, the warranty company will do all it can not to pay you.

we took out a warranty direct warranty on our zafira when we thought the dual mass flywheel was on the way out.

turned out to be injectors.

paid out for 3 injectors at £300 a time (minus excesses and piping that wasn't covered)

HOWEVER... we are still making a formal complaint through the financial ombudsman because the way we were treated by the claims dept was awful, they are rude and obnoxious people. they would only approve 1 injector at a time, even though after the 1st injector, the car broke down a week later and then after the 2nd injector, it broke home on the way home. £50 excess PER INJECTOR.

we just want them to admit the injectors were all at fault to start with and only 1 excess should be taken (plus other complaints i won't go into) but instead, they have told us to go to the ombudsman (thats costs them £250) and then when the ombudsman ruled in our favour, WD rejected the ruling and asked for assessment by a senior ombudsman (another £250)

stupid idiots!

BUT for £350, we saved over £1000

i have heard good things about the AA one that is favoured by most of the garages

do merc have an extended warranty??

but TBH matey - not much has been going wrong with the forfours!!

I wouldn't bother with an extended warranty on an old car, they would more than likely use the excuse of 'wear-and-tear' on any claims - the small print can be a minefield to get through.

Anyhoos, 'only' 4 y/o? When was car born?

born or registered ;)

my warranty covers "wear and tear" but there is still a huge list of excluded parts.

in the end, as long as you realise its just an insurance policy and it is managed the same way, and will never fully cover everything you will be ok.

if you do get one, make sure the turbo is covered (thats normally an add on)

we are here to help you fix it :)

Mine is 2004, most parts on it are 8/2003 or 10/2003, ECU has a label that says Engineering sample, and the pollen filter panel has a round sticker that says prototype.  So don't worry about your car being 4 years old..mine is at over 8 :P
