Bluetooth OBD scanner
« on: May 06, 2012, 09:06:12 PM »

Just ordered one of these cheap and cheerful ones from ebay has anyone had any experience with them?

The one I asked about I was told gives all B,C,P & U codes as i know some of the standalone cheapo ones only do C codes. Im hoping this does them all?

I have also got an app for my iphone so hopefully bluetooth will work through that will let you know

Let me know how you get on - I was thinking of getting on, as my iPhone is mounted by my stereo.

I'll be interested to see if it's worth it for a cheap option.

It needs to be jailbroken though as the app is through cydia, dont know if this is an option for you

I got mine from amazon as I can't say I heard great things off of the mine field of Ebay ones.. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004KL0I9I/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
the exact one looking through my order history. Works perfectly though I had to modify the cover which covers the port over as the bluetooth doo-hicky was a little too long (just removed some honey-comb structuring on the back of the cover). I have no disconnects or any other issues using it with my HTC Evo3D and torque app

Might have a faster refresh rate or be compatible with more sensors. Mine has slight lag at times but my phone is also connected to my radio handsfree and my smartwatch so that may be the issue :/. I have no experience with Iphones so I can't say how it will interact with your phone's bluetooth or app. I am using Torque at the moment but I am thinking of getting DashCommand for android which I think originally derived from the Iphone scene if you fancy (if not already) giving that app a look at.

I'm looking at THIS ONE as it's "mini" and therefore I would hope it'll fit in the OBD socket and allow me to put the trim back over it.

They all say they're for "android" but I don't see why it wouldn't work with iPhone too!

Does anyone know if the 44 has a turbo boost sensor, and if these things are likely to pick it up?

It's more a software problem than a hardware one. ;)

Normally ou have to get a wifi one for iphone but there a lot more as iphone doesnt have a 'normal' bluetooth. Your only supposed to be able to connect headsets or ad2p audio devices.

As mines jailbroken there is an app on cydia store which supposedly allow connection to bluetooth GPS, pedometers/heart rate monitors and OBD devices so hooefully I can cheat an it will work.

If not for £12 i wont grumble too much and will use it with my android tablet with torque

Funny you saying that.....
I always wanted a ScanGauge II, and I got one from Evi that had very little use.
For the first few days maybe weeks) I would look across at it to see what the turbo boost
pressure was on my remapped CDi, but in the end; just like you; I found eventually I hardly
ever looked at it. It's great for any mates or people who never seen one stare blindly at it
and maybe ask the odd question or what it can do etc (sometimes saying "that's awesome")
but the next time they'd ignore it, just as I was doing.
That's not to say it isn't an awesome bit of equipment...because it really is.
It's perfect for technophobes (aka 'geeks') or for track day use, or checking set-ups etc.
and I'm sure someone would find a very good use for it that I so far just haven't.
So now I've unplugged it and it just sits there. One day I'll take it out of the car.
