Dont get me started.  Someone today said "why have that car when the speed limit in your country is so low, and most of the time you cannot even do that because of traffic"

no.1 For Fun
no.2 Because I can
no.3 Safer overtaking
no.4 Track days and sprints

I'd better stop now before I go off on one.....

Unfortunately I sit in the camp of there are speed limits and have no wish to partake in track days (unless i had a specific car), I do look for an adequate 0-62mph time (circa 11 secs +/- 2) which is sufficent for safe overtaking and pulling out/away.

I like James May's ethos of why have a performance car for day to day use when you can only really push it on a track, when you have a small hatchback with adequate performance you have much more fun pushing it to its limit.

But it is each to their own at the end of the day, you enjoy your performance cars; I enjoy my little hatchback that does decent mpg and gets be comfortably to my destination.

I am looking forward to my Corsa, it should be more comfortable doing the miles and hopefully quieter too.

I would rather have a performance car where the limits are high and stay comfortably within them driving the streets than have a more basic car and drive it at its limits on the streets...... That's when accidents happen.

Obviously, the are times and places where you can push up closer to the limits in a powerful car and that's when you have fun.

My ethos is fast but wind it back rather than slow and push it hard :)

Yes it's something of a secondary benefit for me - but I'd rather be in my Brabus knowing that even if I drove like a wally the car would do a fine job of keeping me on the road.

I lost control of an old Micra at just 30mph round a bend once, thanks largely to imperfect road conditions, which I know the Brabus (plus 10 more years of experience driving!) would handle without a sweat.

I'd say 11 seconds +2 would be an awful acceleration in any car when you need to overtake.  10-11 would be fine, that's what most cars are anyway.

Besides, fun comes in plenty more shapes and sizes than simply speed.
