where to buy tyres
« on: July 29, 2012, 06:57:29 PM »

im planning to buy a set of 16" movelines (the four spoke ones) from mercedes as they are about £75 and germany have about 650+ wheels in stock and i need some tyres fitting to them when i buy them.
this is a strange question for me to ask as im in the motor trade but i need to buy a FULL set of tyres.
where i work now at Jaguar York (the same franchise i worked for in Leeds) we dont fit tyres, we sub-let them to the BMW dealer (which is part of the same group) next door.
iv asked the guy who fits them and he said id be beter of buying them from t'interweb. most here would recommend black circle and i have to say they are VERY good on price and delivery. they do there own 'no make' budget brand for about £40 but i prefer pay extra to buy a known make, like nexen, falken, matador, etc... or even the branded tyres if the price is right.
is there any other site other than bkack circle that i could get them cheaper?

Kiddah mr S. I recommend Camskill.co.uk. I've got move lines 16" and the tyre size is 205/45/16. From Camskill they are very good value, especially if you can fInd a cheap local fitter. My one came with random budgets all around- kumho and sunny, but have been good for grip- perhaps I'm not trying hard enough.

thanks yaar. whats the speed rating on the tyres you have?
i have a mate (who is a singh) that works with bikes and they fit tyres and im in touch with one of the lads at volvo in harrogate and jaguar in leeds, so the fitting can be sorted no problem.

I think they are 84. Any more is optimistic. I try n buy half decent tyres myself as they seem to last for ages I find. On my 42 I bought toyo t-1rs which were good. For the 44 there are lots of choices in that size. Perhaps others could post what tyres they have and how they rate them?

BlackCirles, Camskills, BlackBoots are all good companies with good prices.  I use Blackboots cos they're local, and I pass them on the way to and from work every day.

Be sure to shop around - a friend of mine told me the other day he got a quote for his MX5 tyres at £70 a corner from National Tyres, went on another site and got them for £50 a corner.... and this other site arranged for them to be fitted at... NATIONAL TYRES!

might try a local tyre wholesaler in armley next weekend might be cheaper still than cam skills. black boots dont sell and deliver tyres, i just want the tyres and ill get my mate who works with bikes to fit them in exchange for my help as and when he needs it (he's a really good friend who i have known since year 10 in school)

I bought Falken 452 from Topgear.co.uk. They have a local franchise here, and had the best price for the size I needed. (70 pounds for 205/40R17 and 95pounds for 225/35R17)

I did a huge bit of phoning around and internet searching recently, ATS Euromaster came out cheapest - got 4 tyres fitted, balanced and such for £163 - even buying online some people wanted £240. Tires were 195/50 R15. The prices for the rest of their services are very good too.

Try all options.....interweb/local/whatever....

3 well know and very good tyres to consider....performance v mileage....
1/ Falken Ziex ZE-912
2/ Hankook Ventus V12 EVO K110
3/ Bridgestone Turanza ER300

Turanza's were factory fit in some cases, though not the cheapest to buy now.

What make of tyres....??

We went for a mid range set of fronts on the zafira to cut costs and they are awful. No grip in the damp at all. No road feel and a complete waste of money.

Going back to the continentals if these things ever wear out....!! I Did save about £100 but it's defo not worth it.

Mr S - Don't buy cheap, by good and then swallow the costs. Cheaper than sticking your car into the back of another!!

I think you'll find they are Continentals really. Price is very good too. Some of the old eastern bloc tyre companies are producing very good budget and mid range tyres these days as most of them have been taken over by the big players. It's just picking the right ones.
