So your car was the 2002nd model off the production line....which started in 2004.

Umm. No G. I spent an hour today searching for that elusive VIN in the drivers door and under the mat to no avail. Only under the passenger windscreen wiper.
Google "VIN deciphered". The 10'th digit is the year model. Mine is 2. The website above confirms this as a 2002 model. Confused.

does it really matter when your car was made? i mean really who ACTUALLY checks?
i know of an XJ that was the last of the 'old' model before it went bigger and all aluminium which was never registered. also another Jaguar, this time a 2001 MY S-Type that was delivered to a dealer in shrewsbury which no one ordered and no one knew anything about it... they ended up registering it and selling it several years later.
the ONLY proper way to find out when it was built is to contact you dealer and ask them as they will be able to log on to mercedes/smarts data base and find out.

my 2 pence worth now... you have a car and just enjoy it instead of worrying about when it was made!

Ditto.

But taking that back to your original enquiry - there should be no need to know the model year for insurance purposes.  The forfour was made for only 2 years, and comes in very few varieties - 1.1, 1.3, 1.5 petrols, 1.5 cdi (68 and 95bhp versions), and then a couple of trim levels (pulse, pure, coolstyle, black)..... and of course, the Brabus ;)

You know you have a 1.3 Pulse, that should be enough.

When I'm asked for a year for my insurance, I give the registration year of 2005.

Apologies for my 'error' I just took your words at face value..
"model number is 2002" vice "model year of production is 2002".
But that aside, as funky says....what matters is the year of
registration. That is what is on the log book/paperwork, and
what should be given for insurance and also if selling/buying.

Ukram, your car can't be a 2002, they started making them in 2003 and selling them in 2004. My car is a 2004 registered one, and most of it's parts are made in summer-fall of 2003, and a few of them are labeled as prototype, or for engineering purposes.

No forfour was made in 2002.

the websyte is not good and your VIN seems to be not good, or is broke or something.

the VIN number for some cars was not subscribed in EPC-ASRA the MB program and your VIN give the error " data card cannot be read" .
Some cars was so personalized that was not registred in the MB program.
I will give the VIN to a friend that works in domain to see if they can take out the paper with your car.
The webyte from top is not good for european cars or japanees ones.

I agree. My VIN must be incorrect. I live in Africa and most cars here are stolen. :)

The VIN is stamped into the footwell of the front passenger seat, pull the seat back and you will see a small cutout in the carpet, pull it back and see the vin there. It's stamped into the metalwork of the car, so if it's tampered with you will surely notice. The one on the pillar is just FYI, insurance, MOT, police etc go by the one on the footwell.

so you have to be carrefoul with the authorised dealers from Mercedes because they register the car in the sistem and police can find it .

so be very cautious.

Jaguar Land Rover Cars LTD could 'kill' a car if its found to be stolen if plugged in to there diagnostic equipment

My car was made on the 10th of February, 2004, model number 0000430. Who's got an older forfour than mine?
