The slots/vents are for the heat to escape from the engine and more so the exhaust,
which sits not to far down below them.....the same as the earlier 450 ForTwo had....
and also the Roadster too.

The ForFour is actually quite aerodynamic. The design causes a vacuum affect behind it
which 'sucks' the car down and increases the grip/roadholding. Unfortunately a consequence
of this is that is sucks up all the muck and deposits it over the back of the car.
The 451 ForTwo does not do this...hence why the back end stays cleaner.

plus if you have a look at the 451's back its got more of a curve than our forfour's

I think we all have to live with it  :o :(. On the other hand regular polish helps a little bit... 8)

hand regular polish helps a little bit... 8)

I polish mine every fortnight, and yeah it helps - I just spray and sponge the back and the door panels every few days (when it's not freezing).

My diffuser reduces the amount of crap flung on the back of the car. It's not perfect, but certainly helps throw dirt and water further away from the car. Driving in the rain looks fun out of the rear window, creates one hell of a spray!
