well got myself upto Wales for mothers day, and had the opportunity to blatt around some of the lovely roads up there - the cdi is pretty entertaining, and i got just shy of 500 miles out of the tank without too much hanging around.

First mod done, lounging room of course (free, easy and in the spirit of the forfour i think) next plans brabus backbox and rear apron to be fitted (got the bits for this oen), head unit change, decide on an air filter/induction kit, get the leather seats sorted, ponder the wheel decision, think about remaps, etc etc

must remember i'm running a business that isn't playing with the car

Sounds really good. Have a mapped cdi myself- they are great fun. Remember though that once the mod bite starts there is no stopping it!

yup ! always been the way, and then you sell the car and wonder where the money went fun while it lasts though

If you haven't yet got one, then don't waste your money on the Brabus one....
as has been stated before...it's made of mild steel, not stainless...so it rusts.
It weighs a ton....and new it costs well over £500 ! !
For that money you can have a full custom system made up....from the manifold back.
Or....if your existing system is ok and you just want to release some of the back pressure
the standard back box creates, then look out for a Remus stainless steel one...which is a
straight fit and costs about £350 or so.
With the CDI, don't expect a growl or roar if you fit either the Brab or Remus...in fact it
won't sound much louder or throatier than the original !  I had a Remus at one time...
which is how I know about it. (and it took all of 10 mins to fit after removing the old original)

I guess i'm keen to do something quick and dirty while i figure out what to do to the car longer term, and i can pick up a used brabus back box for about 100 quid - now i know its gonna rot (both the roadie and the 4/2 brabus the exhausts did this (not sure why they chose to make them in mild steel - sucks) but if i can get 12 months out of it, then i'll have some time to think about what i want to do with a bit of time living with the car.

not worried about noise, got the bikes for that

had a look around and can't see a remus for less than 300 quid, and nothing second hand, if anyone knows of anything, let me know please.

Hi there. I too tried to source a Remus cheaply but without success. The options of a Brab back box or or a custom stainless steel one like crazyG. I bought a used Brab one and sprayed it with high temp paint from halfrauds and so far it's been good.
Performance wise no real difference but it does look nice especially with the rear diffuser. Also it was straight forward to put on.
