Tinted Windows (right price yes - no)
« on: June 17, 2013, 09:55:20 PM »

Went to tintstudios in Sheffield to see how much to tint the back window and back passenger windows and quoted me £150.

Is that a good price?

yeah - sounds about right. Paid £120 for mine (front, back and rear - inc 1/4s)

the 1/4 they will just put a black vinyl on them - ask to see what they are offering.

my tints have been on my 1/4 for 5yrs and although have some creases at the edges, they still look the same.

A wee correction for those of you who may be 'panicing' a bit here
thinking 'Oh my God....perspex...that is so fragile...anyone can break
it and get into my car !'   :-\
It is in fact polycarbonate.....and it is nigh on impossible to break it.  8)

I asked a local Window tinting specialist ( Vampire Tints )  about tinting my windows recently , they quoted me £180  .... they said it's a little more expensive than other places because they take off the door panels ( he says they use smarts as promotional vehicles so are used to removing the door panels ) and remove the glass so that the tint goes edge to edge on the glass  where as a lot of places  leave an un tinted edge  at the edges of the glass  , also .... ( you'll like this bit JJ  ) .... they say they recommend using " flyeys " on the rear quater windows  ...... It all sounds OK, but I'm still not sure about having it done , and I have to admit to being a little worried about them damaging the door panels .

They take the outer door panels off to release the inner panel to tint??

Nah!!

It's totally unnecessary as I watched my tints being done.

JJ   ..   not to take off the inner panel  , they say they take off the outer door panel and then completely remove the glass to tint it  , that way they say that there is no gap ..... the tint goes edge to edge all over the glass so that even the part of the glass that sits in the channel is tinted  .

Removing the glass is how it should be done, that's the proper way.
When it comes to window tinting, people seem to forget everything they know.
There isn't 1 quality of window tinting (film, method, experience) so using cheap companies is generally a bad move as they cut corners by using cheap film and leaving the windows in to tint.

Got the car booked in at Tint My Ride in Sheffield (£100 for back or £140 for all windows)

Was going to have the back 100% and the fronts done at 70%.

Talking to a few friends they agree to have the limo black at the back but a few also say to have a light smoke all round.

What do you guys think?

Limo will look chavvy (IMHO)

70% on rear and side rear
50% on front sides

Much more classy I think.

The 70% will look almost black anyway

Is it illegal to go too dark on the front windows?

Yep, no more than 30% on front windows. Most cars with factory tinted glass leave the fronts alone.

I've got 50% on rear half of car and it does the job for me... saves from reversing into the zombies at night   ;) I guess i could've risked it and put on 50% on the front windows too but theres a chance to be caught in random police checks, MOTs don't check but if your involved in an accident it could sting you if someone points out front windows 'excessively dark'
