This 'type' of car has not made it to the end before, eh ?
So these guys should have a good few pointers as to what
went wrong or failed, and have solutions to all of them ?

Other than that I would have advised them to have fitted
'spring assisters' and even gone oversize (profile) on the tyres
to give them a bit more ground clearance for the potholes.....
and....I would have suggested a 'mild' remap, with the EGR
'mapped out' to save it going into 'safemode' as that is quite
a common problem for diesels.

With knowledge from the previous failures and those few additions
the car should or would stand a good chance of making it.

If I remember rightly that car is a 68bhp Pure and it was in poor condition (possibly a softouch too). I wouldn't trust a car from Hiltons to be looked after by them. Bad memories of my early forfour hunting.

My super tall mitsu colt diesel springs would come in handy:P  With tall springs and ET44 wheels you can get 195/60R15 and even 185/65R16 tires without rubbing which give you a big advantage over rough terrain.

I'd also check the thermostat, some cdi thermostats fail after a while and stay open all the time, causing the engine to run below normal operating temperature in moderate or cold climates.
