Donor Car?
« on: August 25, 2013, 02:29:22 PM »

Hi  has anyone ever bought a donor car so they can get the parts they require for their vehicle?  I'm thinking of doing this to get the bits I need for my Jaffa and then selling the donor car as spares or repairs, any suggestions?

Not sure it's cost effective tbh

...once you factor in the grief from the missus and neighbours for having a mini breakers yard in the front garden ;)

But seriously, it can be good but unless you know the forfour has many issues then just buy ad hoc.

it'll be more cost effective to buy the parts from a breakers or new from mercedes.
like JJ says having the car on the front lawn and the headache from the other half (and a potential divorce  ;) ) is not worth it

Thanks, the other half is suggesting it as the donor car I've seen has all the bits I need and they can be swapped over and the donor sold on or I could see if anyone here wants any parts first.  The front won't be a breakers yard as a friend who is a mechanic will probably take both cars away to do the work although I may try the smaller things myself so may be back for more advice if I do get the donor car lol.

I expect a few of us might take some parts off your hands if you go ahead with this. Is it one of the cars currently on eBay?

Yes it was one of the ones on ebay but it went above my budget to buy it and tow it back so back to the drawing board.
