Ladies & Gentlemen, this will turn into your new smart forfour - a car that's basically going to be a LWB version of the next generation fortwo.

Thanks for the update/info....
shame that the 'real' car seldom if ever turns out to be as good as the 'concept'.
So you can wave goodbye to the fancy looking seats, the big alloys, and a few
other 'excentricities' and gizmos that make a concept what it is...just a concept.

And re that concept....let's face it...if that ever got into production as it is
with no side impact protection to speak of, who in their right mind would
want to be in one if it ever got t-boned by a motorbike, van, lorry or bus !

Just another concept. Smart only builds concepts over many years in stead of innovating. I am not interested untill I see any ready for production images. If they want to sell it in 2014, then it's about time to do that.

i reckon with the doors fitted and 'proper' seats its a very good looking car. i do wonder if it will look like that though.

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/frankfurt-motor-show/smart-fourjoy-concept-unveiled

Reading on Autocar's website, I think they have made up their mind already on the new car...

"Prospective buyers of the upcoming Forfour can expect an altogether less flamboyant interior with cheaper materials in line with the existing Fortwo and accommodation for up to five through the inclusion of a three-across split/fold rear seat."

It is very hard to tell what the next generation will look and be like until a production ready vehicle is seen.

Add doors, glass, roof and a toned down interior and this is 95% the new forfour.

I'm thinking that the "plastic" panels will be canned as probably too expensive to produce. They'll probably fake it with painted steel ones. More dumbing down I'm afraid. Makes it all,the more likely that mine will be keepers for as long as possible.  ;)

I'm thinking the same too....

On 're-visiting' the Autocar link and having a look thru them
I noted the comment made in/on picture 8......
"The concept's compact dimensions would make it ideal for inner city use"

Yeah right !  Compact in who's eye;s ? It's bigger by a mile than the VW Up
and 'ideal'....if you don't have any luggage as it has not boot !
Ok, this one is electric, so the batteries take up the frontal space, but as
n when the internal combustion versions come out the engine is in the
back....but that still leaves nowhere for suitcases. (maybe they'll have
and opening front 'a la original Beetle' and have room enough for a
laptop bag or handbag...just.

The production model will never 'hit the streets' with those wheels, as
they're too way too big and too expensive for 'JoePublic'.
They're 3 bolt, so it's a shame they aren't generally available as I would
have a set for my 451 (ForTwo)...they're so cool.

And my final passing comment is why did they marry up the latest ForTwo
bottom front panel to a Toyota IQ front end with a beehive in it ?
Surely Renault/Nissan have a front end from one of their cars that they
could've used instead ?
