How Many ForFours Are There??
« on: September 06, 2010, 06:07:31 PM »

A little bit of info for you all:

DVLA total number of registered forfour's as at end of 2009. Numbers seem a little low to me, but there you go. Seems Andrew's BRABUS wasn't the last registered, the very last forfour BRABUS registered with the DVLA was June 2008 (x2) Oh, and there are 54 Crossblade's registered with the DVLA as of end 2009, double the amount i'd thought.
   SMART FORFOUR BLACK EDITION      574
   SMART FORFOUR BRABUS                  291
   SMART FORFOUR COOLSTYLE            506
   SMART FORFOUR COOLSTYLE 75       140
   SMART FORFOUR COOLSTYLE 90       197
   SMART FORFOUR COOLSTYLE 95         14
   SMART FORFOUR PASSION             3,632
   SMART FORFOUR PASSION (LHD)          1
SMART FORFOUR PASSION CDI 68     258
SMART FORFOUR PASSION CDI 95     572
SMART FORFOUR PLUSE CDI 68         240
SMART FORFOUR PLUSE CDI 95         304
   SMART FORFOUR PULSE                 1,882
   SMART FORFOUR PURE                     359
                                            Total = 8,970

Wow. Anyone here got one of those 14 coolstyle 95's ?

That's a pretty exclusive club ! There's probably more Bugatti Veyrons in this country than that !

I highly doubt that. Most of them are shipped from Dubai and driven around London and then shipped back. I could be wrong though. I heard that one Lamborghini owner from the UAE ACTUALLY shipped his car to a Lamborghini dealer for it's servicing and then had it shipped back

I wouldn't want a Coolstyle, exclusive or not. Its a Pure/Purestyle with alloys and air con, not a great spec.

Pretty much ! Once they get bored of a car they just abandon them and buy another.

Don't mind what model ForFour I have, as long as its got a glass/perspex roof... but I'll stick to my Passion :D!

So the Forfour is a pretty rare beast ! Just think, if they all decended on to Brooklands, we would break the record and double the space taken up !!!
Nice to see so many still out there.

I think he was being very "tongue in cheek" here by basically saying that they are rare !

As for the Veyron- having lived and worked in London most of my life I have only ever seen one (a maroon coloured one in London's posh Sloane Street)- It could have been Simon Cowell's car as I remembered reading in the paper that he had splashed out on one of them in that colour and then a week later I see it in London.

I feel bad for anyone owning one of these rare CoolStyle 95s....it seems that The Architect dislikes? :(

The architect didn't say he disliked the Coolstyle 95s he just said he wouldn't want one. I wouldn't want one either although I'm sure that those that have them are enthusiastic Forfour owners like the rest of us. The Purestyle and Coolstyle were attempts by Mercedes to improve sales by cutting prices and that meant reducing the specification. This was done because Mercedes got the original pricing wrong and the Forfour lost out to the well established competition at the time. I haven't got the exact details, but I think you'll find things like ESP, Softouch option and rear discs were among the items cut. The specification of most of our Forfours is part of what makes the car so attractive.

Wow... My question was whether anyone on here owns one. After that, I don't think they would dare speak up about it.  :(

I wouldn't mind having one, my black edition doesn't have all the bells and whistles that other models do. Doesn't have air con, didn't have alloys
(although it does have rear discs, esp etc and apparently basic editions including the black didn't...)
The original buyer also splashed on some official smart rubber mats :)

I'm sure people who have the pure and purestyle still love their cars, spec or not. For some it's not all about the spec, it's about owning a great car.

The Jaguar D-type doesn't have bells and whistles on it and nor does the 1959 Ferrari California Spyder... but it doesn't make it less of a wonderful and desirable car.
To be honest, nor do many classic cars and they still draw crowds at shows. Any TVR owner will tell you their cars are a real handful with no gizmos but they are still incredible.

I'd still be proud to say "There are only 15 of this model in the country, spec or no spec."

I revert to my original question, 'Does anyone here have one?' Please tell us. I hope someone does and that they are proud!

The later purestyle and coolstyle share a lot more in common with the Colt, ie discs and drums, some internal finishes, the exhaust trim on post 06 is different, etc.

Not saying the coolstyle or purestyle are bad, just not what I would choose. I was lucky with my Pulse, I know not many forfours have the leather pack option.

It would be a nice idea to see who owns what and what spec that model carries.
