Crack plate underneath engine....help!
« on: October 06, 2015, 04:02:26 PM »

So I was checking my oil and noticed a large crack on the plate underneath the engine. A month ago the engine when starting was making a rattling noise but then stopped immediately and has not happened for a month so i thought nothing of it.

Should I be worried about this, e.g. is this an urgent repair or can it way for the next service?

That is not a metal panel down there...so no worries...
What it is, is the 'anti-noise capsule' (or front plastic undertray).

To me it looks like the rear 'edge' or section of the tray that has the
lower lip under spoiler attached to it, is now coming away. This has
obviously been hit; not just once, but many many many times over
quite a long period; and is now separating from the undertray.
It's no big deal TBH.

What that 'lip' does is help create a high pressure area under there
so that it helps suck hot air out that has been heated in it's 'journey'
through the engine bay via the radiator etc.
Suffice to say the Race Brab doesn't have that bit....ok...nuff said.
It's not an essential/vital part.  So that should be a relief to you n Maz...

Mine did the same thing, and a piece got chipped off. So i tied it up with wire, and riveted a cut up coke can over the missing piece.
