Flashing spanner
« on: October 07, 2015, 09:08:08 PM »

G'day there,
When I got my [this time successful]  mot yesterday I asked the mechanic or he could get rid of the flashing spanner and the -999 sign on the speedo when I start the car , we tried everything but could not work out how to do that,
I have looked everywhere in the ''How to'' guides here but no luck.
Could anybody please guide me through how to do it.
Greeting,
Eddie.

According to the official paper from MB service guide if the service interval has greatly exceeded the reset has to be done with MB Star machine.

I can scan the instruction paper if needed. Well I can confirm -23 days didn't need star machine. So if your -999 doesn't have kilometer or miles symbol, then you probably won't be able to reset with how to guide. (over 3 years without service reset).

G'day there,
Thanx for the reply's,  I had a look at how to reset the display and written down how to and tried again but no luck.
CrazyG the Smart had a B service 2 weeks ago but there are no Smart dealers here in NZ so no info available about how to reset the service indicator.
In the 10 months I have owned the ff I have only seen 2 other ones and they were also Japanese second-hand imports.
FireFlower thanx for your info, when I bought the ff it had the -999 already on the display, but I did not know what it meant , so I did not take any notice of it.
The ff has been in this country for over 4 years since imported, and has now 87000km on the clock , and I hope many more kms to go.
Thanx again for the help given,
Greetings,
Eddie.

If no Smart dealers, I am sure the official MB importer has star machine where you can reset the service indicator. I would contact NZ official MB importer.

I am sure they can help and if they say no, then contact a bit higher at the chain ;)

G'day FireFlower,
The ff was not imported by MB but a car dealer who imports second-hand cars from Japan, like most cars here on the road in New Zealand are second-hand from Japan.
Smart Forfour's never came new here , so only a few are here.
I am sure MB haven't got a clue about them.
Thanx for your advice and what is ''higher at the chain''?
Greetings,
Eddie.

I am sure MB haven't got a clue about them.

Even if mechanic has no clue, Star Machine is assisting him step by step, so it should not be issue.

G'day there,
After trying to do the service interval reset many times , guess what?  ''It worked''  Finally I got rid of the flashing spanner and the -999.  Thank you guys for the help, and without the guides of you all it was impossible.
This is the best help forum and guides in the world I think.
Thanx again and Greetings from,
Eddie.

Thanks for reporting, well at least now we know we can let the service time due go to the limit and we still don't need Star Machine even tough official service step by step guide says so.
