Fitting shocks
« on: October 08, 2015, 03:45:40 AM »

G'day Well my mate and I decided to fit the new shocks that I got from Kate (thanks great price) the rears no problem :) but the front Mmmmm that was a bit more of a problem with the tab on the top of the left shaft snapping off cause the retaining bolt had seized it self the the shaft :( and the dust rubber was stuffed too :( now its back to the professional (MB) who I hope will not charge me to much to fit them ( $50 for the rubbers each thats OK I think)  Life is full of great moments :) Ha Ha

I got them from Kate (on this site) $1000.00 AU delivered   to my door  :)  I would get the top rubbers at the same time.

Sounds good,

I am tempted to try BC Racing coil overs where shocks are completely adjustable for height and comfort level (stiffness).

BC ones will only fit a Brabus due to drop link connections. You can use KWs though.

100% correct there Scoobysook......
Only Bilstein BK14's or KW Inox Variant 2's have the small plate
on the side of the strut for 'non-Brab' drop-links to fit to.

could one not fit the BC kit and fit the brabus drop links? is there any provision to fit them to the lower arm on a non brabus or are they different part numbers?

Had the struts fitted on Wednesday and a 2 spanner service done at Sydney MB, ( my mate Allan & I did the rears but the nut the holds the strut to the mounting plate was seized on and the tab on the shaft broke off, we did not have the tools to finish the job so off to MB ) its great to have the suspension working as new again :) now here is the disappointing bit, would u believe some one in their parts department forgot  to order the plugs and air filter :( now I have to take "Fritz" back to them in a week :( thats a 4 to 5 hour round trip :( not happy :(

As the car was booked for a service and they should have had the parts
available/ready, I'd be inclined to push...no make that demand..a discount,
especially so considering the time, inconvenience and fuel the 2nd/return
trip will have cost you due to their error.

Yes indeed, their mistake so they should compensate you! As an aside, why not fit an ITG or similar air filter? Then you won't have to worry about future changes. Cheers.

My experience with reusable filters has not been good πŸ˜’ The other problem we have down here is MB Sydney are the only ones that have the software & MB are not importing  smarts any moreπŸ˜₯ I am confident that MB will do the right thing πŸ™πŸ»

Did the MOT they said rear right shock leaked. I asked the price for 2 shocks and swapping in the Workshop.. They said 360 euros. Shocks and labor... I wanted to laugh.

So ordered some online for 70 euros total..  Just changed the rear shocks on mine an hour ago.. Took me about an hour. Car on the ground, didn't lift it up. In and out. Old shocks were super shot. I didn't realize the little one drives so good until now Lol.

How big a problem is the front shock swap?

Old ones..

New...

Well done.

Fronts, being coilovers, will require spring compressors and you'll need a rattle gun to tighten the top bolt otherwise it will spin with the shaft. You can clamp the shaft on the old ones but it damages it so you can't do that on the new ones.

I took the coilovers off the car, and went to the friendly neighborhood tire place, compressed the springs and asked them to rattle the nuts off my shaft, or something along those lines.
