Firstly the car was suffering with the random fuel gauge which seems to be fine now since going to Smart Car Specialist.
something to do with the rear light unit?didn't someone have this issue recently?
Hi, I had rain water getting into my Smart ForFour, soaking the whole of the passenger-side footwells. I found out it was the rear footwell really, but as I parked it on a slope, the water seeped through to the front.I asked the guy at the Mercedes/Smart garage about it, and he said (after checking with the workshop) that it might cost a bit to fix just finding the problem. However, he told me the mechanic had told him that the first place to look was the rear lights mounting. (Wink wink). So I went home and removed the rear light lenses/fitting (nearside), and there was a huge buildup of mud/dirt behind it! I cleared it out, refitted...and problem solved! What I think had been happening was that rain water was supposed to come off the roof, behind the lens, and harmlessly drain away. With this dirt buildup, the water instead was not draining away, but building back up until it reached the screw holes used to attach the rear-light to the body, and seaping into the car through there. Weird, but it seems to have worked. Several rain downpours later, and no water coming in. Hope that helps.
Hmm....2 possibilities here...1/ the rear wiper washer jet pipe has become disconnected or broken or even cracked at one of the plastic couplings at the top inside the tailgate. (Does happen). Easily checked and replaced if necessary.
