Wish me luck
« on: October 09, 2016, 10:08:26 PM »

I will be attempting and I repeat attempting! to repair my faulty fuel gauge. After today where I ran out of fuel thankfully I was local, this is long overdue along with other things to sort out. I'm feeling confident and will follow the info very closely. I must be honest I have tried a fair few auto technicians and one Smart Specialist and none of them won't even attempt to do it so this is why I'm nervous lol

nothing nervous about removing and soldering the joints.

all your doing is heating up the existing solder, just dont keep the soldering iron there for too long as you may damage the PCB.

the only reason everyone else is saying no is because they dont want to damage anything and have to pay for re repair.

I used a cheap soldering iron on mine battery operated takes 3 x AA batteries . Amazing piece of kit with a tiny pointed solder point.we'll worth looking at one as not much bigger than a ballpoint pen.and no mains wire in the way to pull you or snag

Go for it D.....
And as said...use a small soldering iron and use just enough
time/heat to melt the existing solder and a touch more of new
solder to ensure the join is good n strong.

I have finally sorted the fuel gauge, and to be honest wasn't as bad as I thought. Start to finish took under an hour and the only issue I had was when putting the clocks back together making sure the buttons on the top were in the right position. The instructions Crazy G added were a great help.

Very pleased :)
