Thanks guys, I'll see if I can get him on here next. ;)

mr.singh - He told me last night that he wanted to keep it as-is for the time being whilst he is getting used to it. I am sure that position will change after Ace Cafe.

Had a proper look through the service history yesterday. Seems to have been regularly serviced by MB and the reason why the gear shift is smooth? The Mercedes approach - they replaced the damn thing in 2011. The rest is pretty bog standard but does include a new clutch as well. The panel work is the biggest job on that but I reckon he'll leave it like that.

Will do mr.singh.

We picked it up this afternoon and drove back from Stockport to the Wirral. The weather just wasn't our side for the first leg of the journey - rain, rain and yes, rain. Despite some foolery on the M56 involving a Mercedes and the newly acquired ForFour, we made it back to the Chester services unscathed following the M56 and then the A56... because I was bored of the motorway. :P

Going back past Cheshire Oaks and then up the Chester High Road for the second leg where the weather cleared, it seemed perfectly fine and remained that way all the way back. The only comment I really got was that it appears to lack oomph in 5th gear, which I never experienced in the 1.1 I was loaned. I suspect that was aimed primarily at overtaking and not being familiar with the characteristics of such a engine. I didn't ask if at any point he took it past 3500 RPM for the valve timing change but I did suggest a swift down change into 4th may help.

I've ordered a new height adjuster handle and a keyhole cover for the passenger door for him (the lack of handle was really, really annoying me). I've also noticed a small tear in the driver side seat bolster which neither of us had noticed. It's pretty small so I think a bit of sewing is in order.

But these are all cosmetic things, least it is home. ;)

Well done....and good to see nothing untoward happened
on the drive back.
And yes...I suspect a downshift and pedal to the metal would
have circumvented the 'flat spot' in fifth....just remind him that
the 1.1 loves to be 'thrashed' above 3,500rpm to get it to get
up n go.

I'll be sure to remind him. As I say, I didn't have that issue with the 1.1 I was loaned but I guess I am more adventurous with the rev range, given a bit of time I am sure he'll use it all as well.

Now hopefully I can get back to working on my ForFour! ;D

get some V-Power in it and give it a good thrashing! my 1.1 pulled like a 'train' in 5th even with 2 passengers and a boot full of luggage when i took it to south germany. a little forward planning is all it takes
