Service and MOT
« on: October 12, 2010, 08:06:53 PM »

Had my service and MOT done today, passed with flying colours. I had it serviced at
Al's Autos in Heanor (Derbyshire) which was recommend by alot of ForTwo owners,
must say i was very impressed. The guy who owns it is a fully qualified Smart mechanic
(owns his own Smart car to) with all the gadgets and I thought the price was great, it
was £160 for a B service and £25 for the MOT. I will definatley be taking my Smart
Cars to him in future and would recommend him to all. Just to note he also does the
A service for £75.

That's what you get from a small outfit. They're like gold dust !!
My independent charges £127 for an A service. £75 would just about cover the oil and filter here.
Prices (and wages ) do vary up and down the country, so nice to see someone get a good deal for a change.

My daughter rang Merc/Smart of Southampton as the single spanner symbol was
flashing on the dash of the 56 plate 1.3 Passion that I bought for her in Feb2010
with 20k miles on it.
I wish I hadn't asked her to call them......I only did it cos peops were saying how cheap
they were....
My ears got a real bashing on the phone from her.... Shocked ! !
They ignored that the Service Book had a B service at 20k..and a stamp...
they said as it had 29k + the age of the car it had to have a B service !
Errr hello....it had had a B service early....part of the deal to buy it.
"Sorry...it has to have a B service....£299 please."

B@lls to that....
Next weekend she's coming up my way (London Heathrow area) and having an
A service done by an 'indie' for £99 all in.

Sounds like a classic case of bamboozle the female to me or maybe a receptionist in
need of training. Quite right to go to an independent.
I was considering giving Merc a go next time, but it looks like nothing has changed.

Muppets !! And thats a lot for a B service anyway but about £80

I don't think they are trying to baffle her, just automatically assuming she was wrong ;)

I took my diesel Forfour to Al's Auto's a couple of weeks ago. Excellent service.
Car had a 'B' service for £160. I would recommend this garage to any local Smart drivers.

OK...recommend away....for those interested, where is Al's Auto's ?

Everyone....it helps when you make recomendations if you can give specifics, such as the region/area and town..
a phone number would be useful...or a website address (if they have one) where any detailed info can be found.
thanks

I've just posted a service voucher link on ebay for Als Auto's in the ebay trading section ...very competitive price !

Smart of York just quoted me £177.17 for an A  :o    & the MOT will be an extra £40

Think I might be going elsewhere !

B service last year with extra spark plugs i had to pay for as not included ,
£10 insurance for courtesy car & MOT came to £236 incl VAT

So I e-mailed to complain at price quoted and they said they'd do an A service and MOT for £150

Think we should start a thread on how much each Smart garage charges for A and B services
Just naming the garage & price at this moment in time for reference ?
I think it would be very interesting to know the regional differences...

Can't help but agree with you there Baggy.....an excellent suggestion.
Anyone 'contributing' such information should state what model the price is for...ie diesel/1.1/1.3/1.5/Brabus
