Just got some new front tyres from Halfwords , toyo 195 50 15. Best price I could find under £100 for two fitted ,but you have to ask for the internet price as this is less than shop price .also you need to watch out there are two models same name but one less good in rain think it was f rated . Think that one is a harder compound so would last longer ,but I went for the softer as better wet grip. 30 psi and now feels better to drive .

I always note how better this any any car feels after changing the tyres. My rears last a long time, but the fronts go through 3 sees in the same time. Being FWD and mine the heavier cdi diesel engine contribute to this.

It's advised that if you only change one pair at a time to fit the new tires to the rear and swap the old rears on the front. It's safer for the average driver and also equalizes wear rates on fronts vs backs.

Having worse tires on the rear would lead to oversteer, something that's much harder to predict and counter-intuitive to correct.

If the fronts are the worst out of the lot, then you'll feel the limits of the grip progressively (and adjust driving to suit conditions) but it will also be easier to correct it if the car suddenly looses grip.

For the same reason is it advised to swap rears with front? I've done about 7k miles and fronts are already bit more worn out than rears.

G'day all,
My front tires are still about 3 mm, and as summer is coming here i will drive till autumn and see how they are by then, it also depends on my mot next month or i can still get another 6 or 7 months out of them.

The 'Boys In Blue' change the tyres on their cars when the tread gets
to 4mm as their testing has proven that the point of optimum grip has
been reached, plus the wet weather grip has fallen off dramatically as
the depth 'blocks' in the tread stop the water channels from working
efficiently.
And I can vouch for that as I noticed a rapid fall off in grip and handling
on the last few sets of tyres I have had fitted on my cars, though I do
have to say that I drive in 'a spirited fashion', so most wouldn't notice
it as much as I do.

I have to drive like an old woman as my wife dont like speed, also the speed limit is max 100km per hour which i keep to as much as i can cos i dont like those tickets you get for nothing but have to pay a lot of money for.....lol.

This thing about putting new tyres on the back . First  if you rotate your tyres  front to back that means your putting the ones with the most tread grip on the front . Don't understand how older tyres on the front would help you feel the limits of the grip progressively. Would want best grip on front to drive out or steer out of problems.

The reason you rotate the older rears to the front is that the
car is lighter at that end, so you actually need the most grip
there....to stop the car 'letting go' in bad weather, or, in an
emergency manouvre such as hard braking.
