How to the disable alarm / motion sensor
« on: March 16, 2018, 01:40:28 PM »

Hi guys, the alarm on my 2005 1.3 pulse is playing up.

This morning, I unlocked the car with the fob as usual, as soon as there was movement inside the car - the alarm goes off. I tried locking/unlocking with the fob a few times but that didn't help.

There aren't any buttons inside the car that allow me to switch off the motion sensor....

Any idea's how to disable the alarm entirely (I read removing fuse 28 might do the trick) or the motion sensor?

Thanks :)

I think I've answered my own question, found the below from Crazy G:

"......by pressing firmly the 'car on the level' button on the centre console AFTER you have switched off the engine and removed the key. Then when you arm the alarm (press the keyfob) the ultra sensitive interior motion/vibration/knock sensor will be disabled. I do this on mine every time as I got fed up with the alarm going off caused by every passing vehicle equipped with a  subwoofer or loud exhaust or even rattely old vans going by"

I'll give this a try when I get home this evening...

The one with OFF written on (next to unlock) it disables the motion sensor for when the alarm is ENABLED. So you can lock the car with a pet in it and it won't trigger. The one next to it with the car on an incline disables the inclination sensor, so you can tow the car with it locked and the alarm enabled.

When you unlocked the car the alarm should have disabled itself entirely.

Did you wait for a long time after unlocking the car to get into it?

If you unlock the car and don't open the driver's door, the car will automatically relock after 2 minutes, and the alarm also re-enables itself. If you opened any other door, the car couldn't lock itself back up BUT the alarm certainly did re-arm and that's why it went off..

Nope, unlocked and quickly opened the door

I'll try disable the motion sensor this evening and report back

When you either arm or dis-arm the alarm, do the indicators flash
more than 3 times ?  If they flash more then the battery in the
keyfob needs changing....very very soon or you won't be able
to dis-arm it eventually.

As per JJ's suggestion eslewhere, try removing fuse 28 for about 5mins
or so, and then replace it to see if that works.
If not then I would suggest changing the keyfob battery. The battery you
need is CR2016. Get a decent replacement such as Duracell, although
the best maker/manufacturer is Renata.
Split/separate the keyfob body (there's a slot where you can insert
a coin and twist itopen) then carefully remove the battery NOTING
which way round it is fitted. Touch the new one as little as possible
and ensure you fit it the same way round/up as the original.

If all that fails then you may need to have both keys recoded....
at a Smart 'indie'...cos MB will charge you a fortune to do it.

Thanks guys.

The key fob battery is fine, I changed it last year.

I fiddled about with the motion sensor on/off switch and it seems to be working normally now, don’t ask me why or how! ... I’m too nervous to test it again now - I don’t want to annoy the neighbours. I’ll try again tomorrow morning and if it works normally I’ll report back here.

Thanks for your valued input

Tried the car this morning - alarm went off about 10 seconds after I got in the car.

After the alarm stopped. I took the alarm fuse out (number 28, red 10amp fuse), the alarm went off straight away. Anyway I cleaned the fuse and popped it back in and now (touch wood) the alarm seems to be behaving itself!

Have a nice weekend all.

Yeah sometimes (once in my 10yr ownership) it just needs a reset :)
