I used CIF cream to polish my headlights and spray laquer for UV protection. The spray paint didn't turn out great so another round of polish and applied headlight protection film. They turned out great.

I think you could do the same for the roof, the roll of film is just 1.2M wide though so you'd need to measure the roof sections and find a way to cover it all with the least amount of seams. DIY restoration this way would be done on the super cheap if you had the rotary polish tool and a heat gun or good hairdryer, as Cif and a couple of meters of good headlight film are very inexpensive compared to labor costs.

I also used Cif cream to polish a wheel arch after a bus rubbed onto my car(crashed into more like it). Just use the "original" or lemon formulations, avoid the bleach one. Worked better than toothpaste.

If your roof is still in good condition, I've heard a few suggestions that getting a paint shop to properly apply clear-coat will sort out the UV protection, long term...

...at least for headlamps.

Thanks for your 'tips' Alex....as the front polycarbonate section
section of roof on my Brab is 'not looking to good' due to hazing/crazing
I'll have a go with some Cif and a rotary polisher and follow it up with
a covering of headlight protection film as and when I get a day or a
few spare hours at some stage before the end of the year.
