Leasing a second gen forfour, good deal?!
« on: November 27, 2018, 11:27:54 AM »

Hi folks,

I own a lovely 2005 454 and now my father wants in  :)

He wants to lease a car and I found the following deal, what do people think?

- Forfour 1.0 Passion, manual, black/grey trim, fabric inside. 3 year, 8k mileage limit totalling £5,220 or £145 a month.

Personally, I advised him to buy a low mileage used forfour which I think we can get for around 5k but he doesn't want the hassle etc.

Depends if it includes servicing and tyres etc

But £145 isn’t loads

They were £99

Have you used carwow to check/compare?

Look at PCP and Lease

no probs - let us know how you get on

car wow gives you a good broad cost profile across many dealerships and you don't have to negotiate as they know they have to be the lowest price they can be to get your custom.

and its all online so no need to deal with any people just to get ideas of prices - all from the comfort of your armchair

I’ve heard the new ones are better for knowing and owning .. they are god cars according to my local inde garage who use them as courtesy cars ..
I’d get one straight away  if it was £99pm or £129pm .. I’m waiting to see if any offers come on in the new year .. xx
Then Brabby can be my weekend car
That deal you been quoted looks good compared to other deals out there

Hmm, not really in the same way that the Colt wasn’t the same as the Mk 1 forfour. They may share underpinnings but the quality of the smart is much improved, hence the price hike.  ;)

The generation 2 s have more in common than the generation 1's, wg body panels as we as chassis and drivetrain .And what does quality matter on a 3 year leased shipping car? All that matters is safety and reliability.

I disagree. I think that quality does matter. I wouldn’t want to own a car with a cheap looking and feeling interior for example. I have sat in both the new gen forfour and the Twingo and there are marked difference. I spend a lot of time in my cars and they aren’t just a to b boxes.  :D

The 'front end' of the Twingo looks far more pleasing to the eye...

Odd that there is a difference between the quality of the interiors,
but if you say there is, I won't disagree with you. Otherwise they are
both built on the same production line, so the mechanical build quality
will be the same for either of them.

Trouble is, that is a subjective statement! It’s a good thing that we don’t all like the same. I think the smart looks better than the Twingo... you and probably many others don’t. However, certainly in my part of the world I see far more (new gen’) forfours than Twingos.  ;)

The VW up!, Seat Mii and Skoda Citigo are also built in the same factory, on the same production line yet many reviewers state that the up! (the most expensive of the trio... like for like spec’) has a better quality interior.

https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-reviews/14539/skoda-citigo-vs-seat-mii-vs-vw

Note the quote...
‘our road testers preferred the smarter looks of the up! and Citigo.’

There you go!  :D

Confusing build quality with quality of materials used

We spend most of our time looking at the inside of our cars so I think how the interior looks is a big thing and therefore it mustn’t be cheap and plasticy.

I also struggle with the ford interiors - they are a bit cheap but that are soooooo over the top with buttons. Conversely, the volvos also bug me with their simple dull centre console - both would put me off buying no matter how nice the outside was
