Hi all, I'm now doing more motorway miles than in-town driving - I'd say 70% motorway and 30% in town.

My actual fuel consumption is better than what Smart says it can achieve - how can that be possible! Normally it's the other way round - e.g manufacturers will claim it 50mpg, in real life it's normally 20-30% less (if you're lucky)

My 1.3 Pulse (semi-auto petrol) is getting between 45 - 55 mpg

I think Smart says combined mpg is 47mpg

I wonder how this compares to others

I think it is quite safe to assume that any 'combined' fuel figures
will be based on a 50/50 basis...half urban, half motorway,
so on that score the figures you are getting are bound to be
better than the official Smart figures.

My daughter's 1.3 Passion AMT gets between 35-40mpg urban
and often well over 55mpg on the motorway...if she drives to the
posted speed figures.

I have got 50.7 mpg using paddle shifters on my 1.5 AMT

don't think iv ever managed more than 47mpg out of my SB3 (I have has an anomalous result of 59mpg but that included a partial fill) but saying that majority of my driving is motorway (40 mile round commute to work and back home)

Definitely had 57.6mpg+ out of mine. This was the day I went to London and back to get my steering wheel as I recall.

The best that I have recorded on spritz-monitor with my 1.3 petrol is:

5.04l/100km
46.66956019 mpg, m/g (miles per US gallon)
56.04780483 mpg, m/g (miles per UK gallon)

It really depends on do I drive just urban or motorway, the most efficient speed is 70km/h, (43.5 mph), if you drove whole way with that speed you can go as low as ~4.4l/100km, 53.45785985 mpg, m/g (miles per US gallon) 64.2002128 mpg, m/g (miles per UK gallon)

With ethanol the variation is even more huge :3

Other tip: for me driving on 4th gear with speed between 80-105km/h is more efficient than driving with 5th gear on that speed. 60-80km/h is more efficient with 5th gear and after 105km/h it is again more efficient than 4th gear. (Based on Torque app's instant readings from OBD port)

Today was a driving day. About 300 km (186,4 miles), mostly on highway, avgerage speed 120 km/h (74,5 mph), with top speed 155 km/h (96,3 mph). "She ate" about 7l/100km (33,6 mpg). Air con was on all the time.
I think it's a little bit to much for what I was expecting.
But, overall, "she" managed to do "her" best and the road trip was all fine.

E85 (ethanol): 1.3l, manual, winter tyres: 8 to 8.5l / 100km combined. Calculated Expected value: 7.8l/100km. Tyres might be the reason, need to change soon to summer tires for lower roll resistance.

A bit downer but now that regular RON95 costs here blastering 1.7€/l and RON98 closing to 2€/l price range and Ethanol being 1.1€/l it is cheaper to drive with alcohol, for now.

Sorry for bringing this up again, but i am really curious...My newly bought smart forfour 454 1.1 (200.000 km on the clock) has managed only 7.1 l/100 km last month on the motorway. This could be either because the gas i put in was 50% water or the fact that the weather was too cold for Greece (3-4 degrees C) or the fact that i had reseted the ecu due to removing the battery. Yesterday, after a month of driving inside the city, i filled up and got 500 km out of 28 liters of fuel. Temperature was 20 degrees Celsious then. This is less than 6 l/100km in city roads which is unbelievable for a car of this age and with that kind of mileage. The only thing i can think of is that the guy who filled the car did not quite do it correctly (although fuel guege shows full, and is not faulty). Anyhow, my question is: Can the mitsu engine's consumption be so much related to the weather?
