Hi, does anyone know if the courtesy lights are linked to the alarm or another system?
I don't know what's happened but I was working on the car with doors open so I switched off both lights manually to save power and bulb life.

Finished the job I was on, set the switches back but the lights don't come on with any door, neither does the rear with the boot. Just to clarify the lights are working but only when you manually switch them on. Switch them back to door mode and nothing.

I tried removing the battery and reconnecting after a while but no joy. Seems a bit bizarre suddenly.

are the lights in the correct positions? The rear one rocks and the front one turns. I can never remember which position is which but turning/ tilting them may give you the correct lights.

Hi, the position is fine. But tried it in all positions anyway but still no joy. It's just really bizarre.

Daft question, but did you close the doors after resetting the lights.

Mine didn't come on again till after I had closed then re-opened the doors.
If that doesn't work, set them as they 'should be', close the doors, then
arm/lock the car with the keyfob, then dis-arm/unlock the car...that might
reset everything.

Thanks for the replies. The bulbs are both fine as if you manually switch them on it works, just not with the boot or doors.

Tried the suggestions and still no joy. For the sake of it I disconnected the battery for a few hours today. Doors closed during disconnection and reconnection. Still no lights.

I can't find a door switch anywhere on the doors that other cars tend to have. Is there a different kind of sensor?

Would there be a fuse just for this switching system as opposed to the bulbs? Just weird the boot and dome light are doing this together suddenly.

No one has asked, but are they bulbs or LED's that you have in each light ?

Hi, the bulbs are original. Just weird that they work manually and not with the doors.

I have been reading material online about the body control module being in charge of the lights. Seems it might be malfunctioning or somehow got damaged. Not something I think I can replace myself alone, as far as I know these things require programming? Also this might be tied to the central locking?

So annoying really!

If you lock the car with the keyfob and push the lock button at least twice, the headlights and tail lights should switch on for a few seconds. This also illuminates the interior lights for the same period.

If that works, it's proof the lights are still under control of the ECU.

Thanks for the reply. Just tried what you said El Tel, I can confirm the dome light does not come on.

The usual outside lights come on with the 'going home' lights but interior lights are still off.

Just so bizarre really. Cars are not what they used to be...

Just a note my light only comes on when I  unlock the car  and not when you lock .

Bizarre. Maybe disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes will reset the ECU and get it back to normal behaviour. Does anyone with more experience than I, have any thoughts about that?

Hi.
I had some issues with interior lights, but in an opposite situation than yours - lights always ON. And the problem was the switching mechanism from interior front light.

Hi, thanks for the replies.

So I have tried the unlock button with going to car lights coming on. Still no interior lights.

I have also unplugged the battery at least 3 times now, including one time of 4 hours where I was doing the gear mechanism mod, still no interior lights.

I will take a look at the mechanism soon but I doubt it will be that as the rear light does not come on with the tail gate opening. Just weird two internal lights only work manually, not with doors suddenly.

Is disconnecting the battery the only way to reset the modules in the car?

The whole interior lighting setup seems very strange in ForFours.
As noted elsewhere on the forum, changing an internal light bulb with the lights switched on, can and does result in a totally fried fusebox.

Maybe there is more than one path for power to reach the lights? Unfortunately I'm not aware of any electrical system schematics to know that, but without a doubt be very careful around the interior lights if you decide to go probing further.
